Welcome to Cowboy Action Shooting with the Nipissing Raiders

The Nipissing Raiders is a dedicated group of like-minded shooters who are smitten by the fantasy and true grit of the “old west”. Cowboy Action Shooting is a multi-faceted shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in the Old West: single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles, and old-time shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, “Old West” style. It is a timed sport in which shooters compete for prestige on a course of different shooting stages.

We also offer Wild Bunch Action Shooting. It is based on SASS Cowboy Action Shooting with a few major differences. The first difference is the two single action revolvers are exchanged for a 1911 style pistol and 4 to 6 magazines. The pistol and the lever action rifle must be of 40 caliber or larger (pistol caliber only). The shotgun must be a '97 or a model 12 pump.

All participants agree to conform to the “The Spirit of the Game”. Competing in “The Spirit of the Game” means you fully participate in what the competition asks. You do not look for ways to create an advantage out of what is, or is not, stated as a rule or shooting procedure. Some folks would call it nothing more than good sportsmanship. We call it “The Spirit of the Game”.

Both Cowboy and Wild Bunch Action Shooting are a combination of historical re-enactment and Saturday morning at the matinee. Participants may choose the style of costume they wish to wear, but all clothing must be typical of the late 19th century, a B-Western movie, or Western television series. SASS puts a great deal of emphasis on costuming because it adds so much to the uniqueness of the game and helps to create a festive, informal atmosphere.

So, if you want to try something unique, put a new spin on an old lifestyle and share great times with new friends, then come out and join an ever-growing group of people.

We hold practice matches every two weeks. For the details look at the Club Calendar.
